Serious Injury Sidelines St. Pierre, Condit Fighting Diaz Next

By FCF Staff

Another knee injury has forced UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre to the sidelines once again, however, this time the severity of the injury will force the promotion to hold an interim title fight.

According to a ‘tweet’ from UFC President Dana White, St. Pierre has “blown” his ACL and will be unable to fight for ten months. As a result, contender Carlos Condit will step in for the injured champion, and will face Nick Diaz for the interim belt on February 4th in Las Vegas.

The setback is the latest in a series of match-up changes. St. Pierre had been scheduled to fight Diaz in October, however, after Diaz missed two press conferences to promote the bout, he was pulled from the fight and replaced by Condit.

A less serious knee injury forced St. Pierre from the card, and after Diaz defeated BJ Penn, the original matchup between GSP and Diaz was restored for February 4th.

Condit was then scheduled to face former number one contender Josh Koscheck at UFC 143, however, no new information regarding who Koscheck might face in light of the latest change has been released.

St. Pierre hasn’t fought since UFC 129 in April, when he worked his way to a unanimous decision win over Jake Shields.

UFC 143 will be hosted by the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.
