UFC 205: Conor McGregor to Battle Eddie Alvarez After All
By FCF Staff
Although Dana White recently reported that the UFC was planning to have Khabib Nurmagomedov fight Eddie Alvarez next, and not Conor McGregor, the latter will challenge for the lightweight title after all.
For several weeks there’s been speculation that the UFC was targeting a bout between Alvarez and McGregor for UFC 205 in New York City. Just last week, however, White said those reports weren’t accurate, and that Nurmagomedov was going to challenge Alvarez. Well, recently the UFC announced that indeed, McGregor will fight Alvarez at the November 12th card.
In addition, the announcement says McGregor will not be stripped of his featherweight title. Following the latter’s decision win over Nate Diaz in August, White said McGregor would be stripped of the 145 belt, if he did not face interim champ Jose Aldo next.
Alvarez won the lightweight belt back in July by stopping Rafael dos Anjos in the opening round.
