UFC Announces May 9th, 13th & 16th Cards For Jacksonville, Florida

Recently it was reported that the planned, May 9th, UFC 249 card would take place in Jacksonville, Florida, and now the promotion’s confirmed the event. In addition, the UFC has announced that it also hold card on May 13th and 16th in the city.
On Friday, the UFC announced that UFC 249 will be hosted by Jacksonville’s VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena on May 9th, and that the events on the 13th and 16th will be as well. All of the cards will be closed to the public due to the coronavirus pandemic.
As expected, UFC 249 will be headlined by a fight between Tony Ferguson and Justin Gaethje for the interim lightweight title. In the co-main event, former bantamweight champ Dominick Cruz will challenge current champ, Henry Cejudo.
The official announcement included the following statement from Florida State Boxing Commission Executive Director, Patrick Cunningham.
“Florida’s State Commission and the Department of Business and Professional Regulation have been in continued coordination with the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) to identify options for bringing the UFC to Florida for upcoming events. Florida welcomes the UFC to the Sunshine State, and our commission stands ready to sanction the events to be held on May 9, 13 and 16. Health and safety protocols will be in place to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all individuals who are helping to make these events possible. With this triple date feature of UFC events coming in May, Florida is continuing to build a strong collaboration with UFC that sets the foundation for more opportunities that we hope UFC will choose to host in our state in the months to come.”
