UFC on FOX 9: Johnson Flattens Benavidez, Faber Taps Out McDonald
By FCF Staff
Demetrious Johnson demonstrated to his critics that he in fact has considerable stopping power tonight at UFC on FOX 9, as the flyweight champ needed just over two minutes to KO rugged contender Joseph Benavidez.
Johnson floored Benavidez with a thumping right hook, and proceeded to land several more shots from above, before referee “Big” John McCarthy stopped the title fight. The victory marked the second time Johnson has defeated Benavidez, as the AMC Pankration fighter handed the latter a split decision loss last September to become flyweight champion.
In the co-main-event, Urijah Faber likely locked up another crack at the bantamweight title, as the vet tapped out rising Michael McDonald in round two. Faber sent McDonald reeling into the cage and to the mat with a series of hard punches, before sinking in one of his feared guillotine chokes to win the bout.
