Jorge Masvidal Would Still Sign up to Fight a Diaz Brother, But Not Next
By FCF Staff
Following the news that a planned bout between Nick Diaz and Jorge Masvidal will not take place, the latter says he would still sign on to fight one of the famous brothers, just not next.
Several weeks ago, Dana White reported that Nick Diaz had verbally agreed to face Masvidal at UFC 235, March 2nd. More recently, however, it was confirmed Diaz has not signed up for the bout, and it’s not clear when the latter will return to the Octagon.
Masvidal recently appeared on MMA Junkie Radio, and while discussing whether he’s still interested in facing one of the Diaz’s, the veteran said this (quote via MMA Junkie):
“Obviously, I want to fight Diaz, because they’re dogs,” Masvidal said. “That’s what I really admire about them. Their skillset is not the greatest. They’re great at boxing. They’re great at jiu-jitsu even off their backs, but that thing – they don’t kick, they don’t wrestle.
“…It depends on which stage of my life I’d be in,” Masvidal added. “Right now, (I wouldn’t want it), because I just want to fight. I want a guaranteed fight. I don’t want something like this to happen. I just want to fight. So, right now, I wouldn’t want to fight anybody that’s had like a high rate of signing and then somehow, some way end up not fighting, whether it’s by injury or whatever it is. I wouldn’t want to fight anybody like that. I want to fight somebody that’s pretty dead-locked when they sign the contract”
The 34-year-old Masvidal hasn’t fought since November, 2017, when he lost via decision to Stephen Thompson.
