Although Daniel Cormier relayed recently that he would undergo surgery to repair his injured knee, the light-heavyweight has changed plans since he’s fighting Jon Jones at UFC 178.

In June, Cormier announced that he had decided to have surgery to repair a tear in his LCL. The decorated wrestler also revealed that he was missing 50% of his ACL.

Since then, however, Cormier has been tapped to fight the champion Jones on September 27th, since Alexander Gustafsson is sidelined with a knee injury. In a follow up report with Yahoo.com, Cormier had this to say about his knee, and why he’ll be ready to face Jones.

“I realize now that my LCL was what was bothering me. And the only thing you can do for that is time,” said Cormier, who also added that he feels “fine”. “Well, with time, it has healed and now my knee feels completely strong, man. I sparred yesterday. I did Jiu Jitsu yesterday, I ran and I feel fine. I’m pretty sore, though, I’ll be honest with you. Too much time behind the desk and not enough time in the gym.”

Cormier (15-0) choked out Dan Henderson in his last outing on May 24th, and the former heavyweight has gone 4-0 since joining the UFC.
