After initial reports that the Ultimate Fighting Championship was attempting to book a bout between lightweight contenders Gilbert Melendez and Khabib Nurmagomedov, it’s been announced that the fight will not happen.

The Twitter feed for American Kickboxing Academy, where Nurmagomedov has been training, announced Friday that the proposed fight has “been scrapped.” The post also noted that Nurmagomedov is now hoping to fight Nate Diaz.

In a follow up tweet from AKA, the camp relayed that Nurmagomedov had agreed to a fight with Melendez, but that they “don’t know about the other side.”

UFC President Dana White has also informed FOX Sports that the Melendez-Nurmagomedov fight is not happening.

Recently it was reported that the two would fight February 22nd at UFC 170, however, White proceeded to announce the bout was not a done deal. Now it looks as though the match-up will not happen anytime soon.

Nurmagomedov (21-0) is coming off a unanimous decision win over Pat Healy in September, while Melendez (22-3) earned a UD victory over Diego Sanchez in October.
