UFC 192: Ryan Bader Discusses Impressive Win, Unclear Title Shot Picture

Ryan Bader

Ryan Bader took another big step towards a title shot at UFC 192 on Saturday, but because of recent developments regarding Jon Jones, when and if “Darth” will face Daniel Cormier remains unclear.

Bader out struck and out wrestled fellow light-heavyweight contender Rashad Evans at the event, and recorded his fifth straight win while doing so. Bader is likely next in line for a title shot, but only if, Jones isn’t scheduled to make his return in the coming months. The former champ recently reached a plea deal which sentenced him to probation, and included no jail time.

Following UFC 192, Bader was asked about his title shot prospects while speaking to FOX Sports 1, and the powerful wrestler said this:

“I want to get a title shot. But I can’t control that. I can’t control if Jon Jones comes back and gets the next shot. I can control the guy in front of me and that was Rashad tonight.”

Whoever Bader faces will be dealing with the best version of him yet, as the Power MMA fighter demonstrated on Saturday that his striking pedigree has reached new heights. While discussing the improvements he’s made to his game, Bader stated:

“I developed a good jab and started more Thai boxing. I’ve opened up my hips and put my combos together. I’ve always had takedowns. I’m building on my game. The jab was working, Rashad was slick. I wanted him to overcommit with the big right and get him with an uppercut.”

The decision win followed Bader’s UD victory over Phil Davis in January.

The champion Cormier, meanwhile, worked his way to a split decision win over Alexander Gustafsson on Saturday.
