UFC: Renan Barao Set to Fight Rising Mitch Gagnon Next
By FCF Staff
After losing the UFC’s bantamweight title earlier this year, and then failing to make weight for his shot at reclaiming the belt, Renan Barao has been booked to face the rising Mitch Gagnon next.
The UFC has announced that the bantamweights will square off December 20th, in Sao Paolo, Brazil.
Barao (32-2) was stopped by TJ Dillashaw in May, and was set to rematch the champion in August, but was injured while cutting weight and had to withdraw the day before. Prior to losing the belt, Barao had gone undefeated in 33 straight fights. The Brazilian fighter is currently ranked #1 in the bantamweight division.
Gagnon (12-2) has been steadily rising up the 135 ranks, thanks to a four fight win streak. Most recently the Canadian fighter tapped out Roman Salazar in the first round at UFC FN 54. Gagnon is ranked #15.
UFC FN 58 will be hosted by the Jose Correa Arena and will feature Lyoto Machida taking on middleweight CB Dolloway in the main event.
