By FCF Staff
Not long after it was reported that Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza and Yoel Romero were interested in fighting one another, the promotion has confirmed that the middleweight contenders have agreed to fight on February 28th.
The bout will be part of UFC 184, which will take place at the Staples Arena in Los Angeles, and will feature middleweight champ Chris Weidman taking on Vitor Belfort.
News of the fight was relayed by The Los Angeles Daily News, and it’s also being reported by the UFC’s Brazilian website.
Souza (21-3) has won seven straight fights and has recorded four victories now with the UFC. Most recently the renowned fighter tapped out Gegard Mousasi with a third round, guillotine choke in September.
Romero (9-1), on the other hands, has won five straight fights since he joined the UFC last year. The decorated wrestler is coming off a stoppage win over Tim Kennedy at UFC 178.
Souza is currently ranked #3 in the UFC’s 185 division and Romero is positioned at #6.
UFC 184 will also feature bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey taking on Cat Zingano, and Frank Mir versus heavyweight Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva.
