UFC London: Gunnar Nelson Says Team Was Targeting Bout With Darren Till
By FCF Staff
Gunnar Nelson is booked to fight Leon Edwards at the UFC’s upcoming card in London, but recently the welterweight revealed they were hoping to land a bout with Darren Till.
Nelson is booked to face Edwards in the co-headliner of the March 16th card, while Till is scheduled to face Jorge Masvidal. Recently the Icelandic fighter was a guest on the podcast, and Nelson had this to say about Till (quote via MMA Fighting):
“We definitely were [trying to get the Till fight], but I wasn’t really thinking it was going to happen. I don’t think he wants that fight, he wants higher ranked opponents and this and that, but we’ll fight eventually, so it’s no bother.”
“I’ve got a good opponent, I’m happy with my opponent, to be honest. He’s a great fighter and I’ll look forward to going into the Octagon against Leon. That’s what I’m focusing on now – my training and my next fight.”
Nelson is currently ranked #12 in the UFC’s welterweight division and Edwards is #9. Till and Masvidal are ranked #3 and #10 respectively.
